Update : Jan 2018The County will allow small privet skiing on Lake Jessie as long as there is no payment for services. Polk County Sports Marketing will intervene and help with finding a new permanent location for large clinics. We Thank all you for the community response and the community support and the support from all of our friends in Winter Haven. Without your help we would not have a 2018 season. We hope that we can continue to serve the community for many years to come. The 2018 Season will be a great season for Ann's Angels Travel Program along with the launch of our new web site and a new location for clinics and hopefully a reduced Hurricane season... we will be able to help many more people living with disabilities to live a more active life style. It was a beautiful day in May when Brooks Adaptive Rehab traveled to Winter Haven Florida for a day of water skiing on beautiful Lake Jessie. We had 21 students for the day. It was great to see many returning students from Brooks rehab and watch their joy and excitement as they progressed a little further with their water skiing abilities. The volunteer staff enjoyed their day with everyone. Jonna Meschke was our side line reporter capturing the reactions from our students when they finished their water ski run. The students reactions were truly heart warming. It helps to remind us that even a small gesture can bring happiness to so many. The volunteer staff of Ann’s Angels are Rockstar’s and irreplaceable. It was a great day on the water with Spina Bifida Central Florida on June 3rd 2017. There were smiles all around. We had 17 students that were ready for a great day of fun on the water. The students got to ski with our talented side skiers along with enjoy tubing fun with their friends and family. Thank you to the best side skiers on the water. You are Super Heroes. A special Thank you to our Master Drone pilot for the great aerial work. Our ground crew is truly amazing. The volunteer staff is amazing and we could not do what we do without your hard work and dedication. Each and everyone of you are truly Angels.
The season started with a bang. Ann’s Angels traveled to Markham park in Ft Lauderdale Florida to team up with Memorial Rehab Adaptive Sports Expo to bring adaptive waterskiing back to the Southeast coast of Florida. It was a great day as we introduced 23 new people to the feeling of freedom and joy on the water. Ann’s Angels took 23 rides out to ski in 4 hours. An awesome job for the Angels network. We were also blessed with a great group of able bodied side skiers, a superb boat driving team, top notch registration crew, an equipment coordinator who is top’s and a group of volunteers from Nova Southeastern University in conjunction with Ann’s Angels leads to help make lasting memories for everyone. We would also like to thank Ray Shippman and Memorial Rehab Institute for bringing us back to the Southeast of Florida. We are charged and ready to head into the rest of the 2017 season. Hope to see you on the water. For more information please check out the video here on youtube. https://youtu.be/mUVEJF4hAEc
Ann’s Angels would like to Thank Performance Ski & Surf, Above the Wake, HO and Hyperlite for the new life jackets and Connelly Skis for the new tube, ropes and bindings Velz printing for the amazing work on our new shirts. The day started with a whirl wind of excitement. It was the day that our friends from Spina Wheel Chairs 4 Kids came to play on the water with Ann’s Angels. It was a great day with a lot of water skiing, food and laughter on Lake Silver in Winter Haven Florida. It was amazing seeing several of our friends get out on the water. The Smiles that are seen. The feeling of freedom it gives them from their wheel chairs or other devices is awesome. Jonna Meschke did interview videos with the kids and parents. Even though this was a makeup day for the clinic because of hurricanes earlier in the year it tuned out great. Ann’s Angels was very happy to have Wheel Chairs 4 Kids spend the day on the water with and we look forward to seeing them next year. “. . . whether or not it is clear you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.” I used to believe these words. Should I still believe them?
I recently read an article that asked if it is still a beautiful world? My answer is YES. I work with an organization that shows just how beautiful and selfless people in this world can be. This picture right here shows that: Ann’s Angels AWF took to the water of Ochlockonee River in Sopchoopy Florida on April 8th 2017. It was a cool morning starting out but warmed up throughout the day. We had the pleasure of working with long time partners and friends the Florida Disabled Outdoor Association. All the participants that came out that day enjoyed their adventure on the water and all the other outdoor activities that were provided. A special Thank you to the Volunteer Staff from Ann’s Angels who traveled north to Sopchoopy. You are all truly amazing Angels.
